Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 9 series devices – Redmi Note 9 4G, Redmi Note 9 5G, and Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G last week in China. The newly launched Redmi Note 9 series devices are different from their Global and Indian counterparts. To recall, Redmi Note 9 Pro series devices were launched in India back in March, followed by the global debut with different monikers in April. To start things off with the design, both these devices look quite similar from the front. These devices offer a bezel-less front with a tiny punch-hole-notch and a chin. Moving to the back, Redmi Note 9 Pro features an aura balance design, while the Note 9 Pro 5G has a gradient finish. The Redmi Note 9 Pro has a squircle camera module compared to a circular module on the Note 9 Pro 5G.

Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G and Redmi Note 9 Pro feature a 6.67-inch FHD+ LCD panel with 2400×1080 pixel resolution. Though these devices pack display panels with the same size and resolution, these are miles apart in terms of refresh-rate. The display on the Note 9 Pro 5G refreshes 120 times every second, compared to 60Hz on Note 9 Pro. However, the display panels on both the devices are equally bright at 450nits peak brightness. Xiaomi has also gone with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection for the display on both these devices.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro packs an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G under-the-hood. While the Note 9 Pro 5G variant gets a beefier Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G with 5G connectivity. Both these SoCs are built on an 8nm fabrication process. Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G packs upgraded Adreno 619 GPU compared to the Adreno 618 on the Note 9 Pro.

The 5G variant also packs faster UFS 2.2 storage compared to the UFS 2.1 on the Redmi Note 9 Pro. Xiaomi offers up to 256GB onboard storage on Note 9 Pro 5G, while the Note 9 Pro offers up to 128GB storage. Though Redmi Note 9 Pro has a dedicated micro-SD card slot compared to the 3-choose-2 hybrid slot on the Note 9 Pro 5G.

Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G features a 108MP quad-rear camera setup compared to the 48MP quad-rear camera setup on the Note 9 Pro. The primary sensor on the Note 9 Pro 5G is a Samsung HM2 sensor with f/1.75 aperture. While the Note 9 Pro packs a 48MP Samsung ISOCELL GM2 sensor with f/1.79 aperture. These high-resolution primary sensors on both these devices get accompanied by 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens with 120° filed-of-view. 2MP depth sensors seem to have become an industry norm, and these devices are no exception. That means these devices have a 2MP depth sensor to help you take better portraits.

By now, you might have got an impression that Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G is better in all the aspect compared to the Note 9 Pro, but that’s certainly not the case if we compare the macro lenses. The Redmi Note 9 Pro packs a superior 5MP macro lens compared to the 2MP lens on the Note 9 Pro 5G. For the selfies, both these devices offer a 16MP front shooter.

Coming to the battery, Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G packs a 4,820mAh battery with 33W fast-charging support. While the Redmi Note 9 Pro has a larger 5,020mAh battery that supports up to 18W fast-charging. The data transfer and charging take place over a USB Type-C port on both devices.

Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G brings a lot to the table without much price hike. On paper, it certainly looks like an upgrade in every department, be it processor, connectivity, or the cameras.
